# Booking Pricing and Credit

> How Nexudus works out a booking's price from your resource rates, and how discounts, time credit and money credit reduce it.

## Overview

When a customer books, or you book for them, Nexudus works out the price from your [resource rates](/platform/billing/resources/rates), then takes off any discounts and credit the customer has. This page explains how. To change prices, edit the rates. To see when the price is charged and invoiced, see [Booking charges and billing](/platform/operations/bookings/charges-and-billing).

## The price breakdown

When you choose a customer, resource and times on the booking form, a breakdown shows how the price was worked out:

| Line | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Base** | The price from the resource's rates |
| **Products** | Products added to the booking |
| **Dynamic Adj** | Any increase or discount from [dynamic pricing](#dynamic-pricing) |
| **Credits** | Time or money credit used, as a negative amount |
| **Total** | What the customer will be charged |

## How the price is worked out

Nexudus works through these steps in order:

1. **Choose the rate** Nexudus finds every rate that applies to the resource's type, the customer and the booking's times. It works out the price once for each charge period, such as hourly or daily, and uses the cheapest. If you choose a **Rate** on the booking form, only that rate is used. See [Multiple rates per resource type](/platform/billing/resources/rates#how-nexudus-chooses-a-rate).
2. **Price the booking's time** Nexudus prices the booking in 15-minute steps, so a booking that crosses from peak to off-peak hours can use a different rate for each part. Fixed costs, dynamic pricing and maximum prices set on the rate are applied here.
3. **Charge for guests**, if the rate charges for each attendee as well as the customer.
4. **Override the price**, if you entered a **Price** on the booking form.
5. **Use time credit** See [Time credit](#time-credit).
6. **Apply discounts**: the customer's team discount, then a [discount code](/platform/billing/discount-codes).
7. **Use money credit** See [Money credit](#money-credit).
8. **Add products**, with any discount, and money credit if you allow it.

<Info>Bookings of 24 hours or more can't use hourly rates. Give the resource type a daily, weekly or monthly rate if customers can book it for that long.</Info>

If no rate covers the customer, resource and times, the price shows as -1 and the form says **We could not find a valid rate for the selected resource, customer and booking times** Add a rate that covers them.

## Credit

Credit is usually included with a customer's plan, but you can also give it to them directly. Nexudus uses it automatically, so customers pay only for what their credit doesn't cover. To charge a booking in full, tick **Do not use any available booking credit** on the booking form.

### Time credit

**Time credit** is an allowance of time for a type of resource, for example 4 hours of meeting rooms a month. It's used before any other discount or credit. If the booking is shorter than the time credit left, the booking is free. Otherwise, only the time over the credit is charged. See [Time credit](/platform/billing/credits/time-credit).

### Money credit

**Money credit** is an amount the customer can spend on bookings, for example £100 a month. It's used after time credit and discounts, and can be limited to certain resource types. If a rate has a **credit price**, money credit is used at that price instead.

To let customers spend money credit on booking products too, go to **Settings → Features → Bookings and calendar settings → Charges & payments** and turn on **Use available money credit to pay for products requested as part of bookings**

To stop customers booking when their credit doesn't cover the price, turn on **Reject bookings if customers do not have enough credit** in the same place.

### Team credit

If a customer's team shares time or money credit, their bookings can use the credit of the team's paying member.

### When credit is used

Credit is used when the booking is charged, not when it's made. To make sure credit is used before it expires, Nexudus charges a customer's upcoming bookings early if their credit expires before the bookings take place. See [When charges are posted](/platform/operations/bookings/charges-and-billing#when-charges-are-posted).

**Always calculate price and/or use credit as bookings are requested**, under **Settings → Features → Sign-up and checkout → Checkout**, also lets credit from the customer's next billing period count towards the price.

## Dynamic pricing

With dynamic pricing, booking prices can go up or down depending on demand and how close to the start time the booking is made. Turn it on under **Settings → Features → Bookings and calendar settings → Dynamic pricing**, or set it up for individual rates.

* **Demand pricing** raises prices when a resource is likely to be busy, and lowers them when it's likely to be quiet, based on past bookings.
* **Last-minute pricing** changes the price of bookings made shortly before they start, by a fixed percentage or gradually as the start time gets closer.

The change shows as **Dynamic Adj** in the price breakdown. See [Setting up dynamic pricing](/platform/billing/resources/rates#dynamic-pricing).
