# Floor plan editor

> Build visual floor plans that show units, resources, assets, and routes through your location.

## Overview

Use the **Floor plan editor** to create visual layouts for your location. A floor plan can include floor plan units, bookable resources, visual assets, boundaries, openings, zones, and transitions to other layouts.

Go to **Settings → Floor plan editor**. You need access to floor plans and the related inventory records.

## Plan your layout

Before you start, decide which floors or areas need separate layouts, identify the resources and floor plan units that should appear, and prepare any background images or asset information you need.

## Create a layout

    Select **Settings → Floor plan editor** and create or open a floor plan.

    Add the layout structure, including its dimensions, background, boundaries, openings, and named zones where needed.

    Place floor plan units and visual assets at their physical positions. Link a unit to the relevant resource or operational use.

  <Step title="Set variants and transitions">
    Add variants when a unit needs different visual states. Add transitions where customers or staff need to move between layouts, such as floors or buildings.

  <Step title="Review connected workflows">
    Confirm that the layout, units, resources, and any contract assignments refer to the intended location.

## Key concepts

| Item            | Purpose                                                       |

| Floor plan      | A visual representation of a floor or area                    |
| Layout          | The dimensions, background, and structural drawing for a plan |
| Floor plan unit | A specific assignable or bookable area shown on the plan      |
| Asset           | A visual item such as furniture or equipment                  |
| Zone            | A named area within a layout                                  |
| Transition      | A link to another layout, such as stairs or a lift            |

## How floor plans are used

Floor plan units can be connected to reservations and to customer plan contracts. Keep the visual layout aligned with your live resources and unit assignments so that staff and customers see an accurate representation of the space.

## Best practices

* Create one layout per floor or separately navigable area.
* Use stable names for plans and units; those names are easier to recognise in reservations and contracts.
* Update the layout when desks, offices, or resources change physically.
* Review any connected reservations before removing or repurposing a unit.
